What is the working principle of a plastic injection molding machine?

2023-12-26

Plastic injection molding machine is a common equipment for processing plastic products. Its working principle is to convert solid plastic into the required plastic products through a high-temperature and high-pressure injection process. Below, we will provide a detailed introduction to the working principle of plastic injection molding machines.
The plastic injection molding machine mainly consists of an injection system, a locking system, a hydraulic system, a control system, and an electrical system. The working process is as follows:

Preparation work: Firstly, the operator needs to prepare the required plastic raw materials and transport them to the hopper of the plastic injection molding machine through a feeder. Then, install the mold correctly on the injection molding machine and confirm that there are no impurities on the contact surface between the mold and the injection molding machine.

Mold opening: Close the locking mechanism of the locking system and adjust the size and position of the mold to match the requirements of the injection process. Then, the injection system begins to heat and pre plasticize the plastic raw material, making it into a flowing molten state.

Injection: When the mold is completely closed and the pre plasticized plastic reaches the required temperature and melting degree, the injection system begins to work. The injection system mainly consists of an injection cylinder, a screw, and a nozzle. The screw in the injection cylinder begins to rotate, sealing the pre plasticized plastic material into the cylinder body and pushing it forward through the rotation of the screw, allowing the plastic material to enter the mold cavity through the nozzle.

Pressure maintenance and cooling: After the injection is completed, the injection cylinder stops rotating and maintains the injection pressure, allowing the plastic material to remain in the mold cavity for a period of time. This process helps the plastic material to fully fill the mold cavity and maintain the desired shape. At the same time, the cooling system begins to work, cooling the surface of the mold through circulating cooling water or gas, allowing the plastic raw materials to quickly solidify.

Mold opening and demolding: When the plastic raw material is fully solidified, the locking system starts to work, opens the mold, and then uses components with demolding functions such as ejector pins and top plates to push the plastic product out of the mold cavity. Usually, molds have the function of multiple cavities and can produce multiple identical or different plastic products simultaneously.

Tail cutting and leg closing: After the plastic product is demolded, the operator needs to cut the excess plastic material to ensure that the edges of the product are clean. Moreover, for some larger plastic products, it may be necessary to perform deburring, trimming, or leg closing treatments on the bottom.

The above process is the basic working principle of a plastic injection molding machine. Of course, the working principle of plastic injection molding machines may vary depending on different models and requirements. In actual production, operators also need to carry out machine debugging and maintenance work according to specific situations to ensure the quality and stability of injection molding.
